Celebrate holidays at It Wiid...

In the heart of the unique lakeland area of Friesland, between Leeuwarden and Drachten, you'll find the It Wiid Camping and Outdoor Centre. This beautiful park lies in the centre of the Netherlands' latest national park, De Alde Feanen, an area of around 2000 hectares of creeks, large and small pools with islands and large waterways. This is a good area for getting around. There are also good connections to other Friesian sites, like Grou, Leeuwarden and Sneek. You can bring your own boat, but of course you can also hire a boat from our reception. We hire out sloops, 'falcons', punts and canoes. And fishing fans can weigh anchor and cast their line to their heart's content.

The campsite and bungalow park lie opposite the village of Eernewoude, or 'Earnewâld', as the Friesians say. The village is on the other side of the water, and can be reached by ferry boat, but you can also get there the 'usual' way, of course. From Ascension, we are opening a great outdoor swimming pool on the campsite, with a super-long (65 m) slide. There is also a water garden for the little ones. You'll also find a well-stocked supermarket, with hot rolls in the mornings. Or you can get snacks at the Meerpaal.

 

At the park's reception, you'll find everything you need to know for a great holiday in Friesland. There's a range of walking and cycling opportunities: there are also a number of sights around Eernewoude which you can visit, even if the weather isn't that great. The chameleon village of Terherne is 20 minutes away, Drachten and Leeuwarden are pleasant shopping towns just a stone's throw away.

 

At the centre building at the It Wiid Outdoor Centre, this season is the first the visitors centre at National Park De Alde Feanen has been opened, in combination with an agricultural museum. Definitely worth a visit! You'll also be in the right place in the Wiidsicht a la carte restaurant, with a large terrace by the waterside, from where you can see the (foot) ferry to the village of Eernewoude.

 

You will also find some interesting museums in Friesland which are definitely worth a visit. In high season, our recreation team is there for you, organising a range of events each day, for children of all ages!

In a nutshell, It Wiid is a great park in the heart of Friesland where you can relax, find peace and space but friendly at the same time.
